I’d love to suggest making the role selection process during onboarding more inclusive and flexible. While I understand the importance of tailoring content and recommendations to user roles, the current list feels limiting—especially for people who are:
Transitioning from other industries
Experiencing a career gap
Unemployed but actively learning
Self-taught or independently certified
Still exploring which design role suits them best
In cases like mine, choosing “Student” doesn’t fully reflect my situation (or intent), and may result in less relevant content, job matches, etc
Add broader role options like:
“Career Switcher”, “Returning to Work”, “Unemployed & Upskilling”, “Different Industry”, or simply “Other (custom input)”
Let users update or clarify their role later based on learning progress or personal development.
Uxcel is amazing for newcomers—but this early interaction can unintentionally make people feel like they don’t belong. In trying to keep things structured, you may be excluding the very people who stand to benefit most from your platform: career changers, returners, and self-starters. A bit more flexibility here would not only make Uxcel more inclusive, but could also lead to more accurate user data, better recommendations, and deeper engagement from a broader range of learners.
