Data Visualization

Charts help you tell accurate and convincing stories around data with beautiful and accessible visualizations. Chart types - Start by identifying the purpose of the visualization and then choose the appropriate chart type. Chart anatomy - The elements constructing each chart are designed to work in harmony. Each piece plays an important role in data communication. Basic charts -Basic charts offer a way to visualize data sets in an intuitive, easy to understand way. Every chart should tell a story and should reflect the content on the page where it is found. Advanced Charts - Advanced charts are a powerful way to display complex data sets. While less intuitive than basic charts, the visualizations should still tell a story the user can understand. Color palettes - The color palette for data visualizations is a select subset of the IBM Design Language color palette. It is designed to maximize accessibility and harmony within a page. Axes and labels - Axes and labels provide a critical context for the information within a chart. Use simple, easy-to-understand descriptors and metrics to label your chart and axes. Legends - Legends summarize the distinguishing visual properties such as colors or texture used in the visualization. A legend or key helps the user build the necessary associations to make sense of the chart. Dashboards - Context is everything. Dashboards will vary widely depending on the context they are designed for and must be carefully considered. Tips & Trick
